THESIS 2022 PROGRAM

Theatre Arts Honors

“The imagination is closer to the actor than real life-more agreeable, more comfortable.” - Stella Adler

Theatre Arts Honors is the capstone experience for dedicated theatre scholars. Partnering with the Theatre Development Fund and the Advanced Theatre Arts studio acting class, the honors cohort will navigate challenging casting in roles against their type, or from periods of history which requires more complex script analysis. In the honors seminar, students explore drama history and theory and apply their developing understanding of world dramaturgy to both scene study of existing texts and the development of original work. Honors students pursue a track of specialization - performance, directing, playwriting or design - to focus independent research and experimentation. The Honors class culminates in Senior Thesis projects, in which each student produces a unique performance reflecting on their creative development. The Theatre Arts Honors class is a full year course that requires the completion of Advanced Theatre Arts in the junior year, and continued enrollment in Advanced Theatre Arts in the senior year.
