From the Authors
Kwame Kwei-Armah and Shaina Taub: "Twelfth Night is a new American musical originally created for Public Works, a radically inclusive program at the Public Theatre in New York City that believe ‘Culture belongs to everyone’… The action of the play takes place now and always in a mythical city surrounded by water called Illyria. Illyria is here, there and everywhere. No one is an expert in our Illyria. Our Illyria is not set in any one specific era or locale, rather an imagined city where all cultures are welcome. Our Illyria is filled with different musical styles, ranging from – New Orleans jazz to Motown soul to Broadway show tune to 80s pop – in order to create as inclusive a world as possible." |
