Advanced Theatre Arts looks forward to 4th Quarter Thesis projects all year. This year, we took a little detour into Tony Kushner's masterwork Angels in America, Millennium Approaches first. Something about a love letter to NYC written in the time of the AIDS Crisis seemed oh too relevant, but since this gaggle of theatre students wasn't due to read the play until next year, we just moved things up. Asynchronous learning meant more room for cross curricular study while working independently on a menu of engagements with the play. Students were invited to create 2 responses to the play from the following categories; Performance, Dramaturgy, Theatre Design, Directing and Playwriting. Playing with digital design as much as old fashioned watercolors and crayons gave students a chance to flex their creative decision making skills from the safety of home. But more importantly the challenges of the zoom scene presented a unique opportunity for students to consider acting for the camera and cinematography too. Below you'll see a sampling of student work.
