Adam Guettel

As generous as he is accomplished, this twice Tony Awarded composer of The Light in the Piazza didn't just come to rehearsal. He got in the trenches with us and filled the studio with effortless love.

Light In the Piazza Production Archive

Musical Theatre Royalty. Local Boy Done Good.

When Adam Guettel came to watch a run through of The Light in the Piazza no one expected him to sit down with a pad and write copious notes on everything from choral fine tuning to script corrections, to the psychological arc of every single ensemble member. His attention to detail was only matched by his generosity and candor. Yes we were in awe of him - at first. But then we realized he's such a New Yorker! He gets so excited, talks with his hands. His love for the work pours out of him, like, well, music. Every single student left the studio a little bit taller, a little bit more aware of themselves as an artist that day. Truly breathtaking.
