B'DAT Show Choir History

The B’DAT Show Choir grew out of student demand to learn proper vocal music technique. For years students would hustle to prepare for a musical audition, strengthen their voices throughout the rehearsal and performance period, but by time the next year’s musical auditions rolled around their voices were rusty. As a result singers who had training in musical middle schools, or who had musical families would dominate the musical theatre scene at Beacon. So Cimato invited our then Music Director, Lilli Wosk, to stick around AFTER the musical was over and keep folks in good voice all year. We welcomed anyone who wanted to learn how to sing an opportunity to do so.

In the time since the Beacon Choir has become the bedrock of the entire Theatre Department. Each year students from all corners of the performing arts work together to produce fundraising events, concerts, pop up performances and make music together.

Students learn vocal technique, music theory, help curate the rep and the arrangements, the staging and the choreography.

No experience is necessary to join the choir, just a hardworking spirit and willingness to have a good time.

Keiji Ishiguri is our Music Director.
