And We're BACK!

Writers and Directors Project
During the Winter and Spring Teaching Artists Maya Macdonald and Jennie Russianoff met weekly with groups of student writers and directors. Eventually the groups paired playwrights with student directors who curated the scene work you see today. Most of the work came from a simple question, if you had to keep your mask on how would that affect the stories you tell? We are delighted with the thoughtful interpretation of the idea of a "mask" and how that shaped our performance today!

Commedia Project

The commedia del arte is a classical Italian performance style that can largely be summed up with the following list of essential elements; hierarchy, romance, physical comedy, mask work, and….. poop and fart jokes. Perfect for kids emerging from a pandemic right? When we considered what kind of performance could work IN a mask, this was an ideal starting place. What resulted was some of the most fun we’ve ever had in the “classroom”, even if that workspace was Pier 84 under the intrepid, or various locations in Central Park!
